Three New Signings For United

Torquay United have ended the week with three new signings for the 2018/19 season. Liam Davis, Samir Nabi & Ben Wynter have all agreed deals at Plainmoor with pre-season starting on Monday.

Davis, 31, has re-signed having arrived in the summer of 2017. After a difficult start to the season overcoming a foot injury, Davis went on to make 33 National League appearances for United, impressing everyone with his athletic displays from left wing-back.

“I think it’s a really good club,” said Liam. “The disappointment of going down, for me personally, is a failure, so staying with a new goal of promotion, that is something that me that the whole squad can get their teeth into.

“Last season is done now, and you can’t dwell on it. You have to live in the present and look forward to the future. That’s what we’re going to be doing as a squad.”

Nabi, 21, is a midfielder who spent his youth career with West Bromwich Albion before making a brief move to play in India for Dehli Dynamos in the Indian Super League. He returned to England in 2017 and signed for Carlisle United.

“I’m a box-to-box midfielder,” said Nabi. “I can score goals, I can create goals, and get up and down the pitch and make things happen.”

Wynter, a full back, signs for the Gulls after spending 2017/18 with National League side, Bromley. The 20 year old spent his youth career at Crystal Palace and he signed his first pro contract with the Eagles in 2016.

“I’m really excited for this move,” said Ben. “When my agent got on the phone to me it was a big wake-up call that Torquay were interested in me, they’re a massive club.

“I hope to just do as well as I can for the team, and help to get the club back to where it should be.”

With the three new signings added to the Gulls ranks this week, plus the experienced midfielder Ash Halls addition last week , United’s manager Gary Owers squad is slowing starting to take shape ahead of their opening pre-season fixture against Forest Green at Plainmoor on July 10th.
