Bucks back to winning ways

Buckland Athletic got back to winning ways in tough conditions at Homers Heath on Saturday afternoon with a   3-1 win against Sherborne Town.

Dan Hart’s team had suffered defeat to Torpoint on their first game in 2023, but there was no hangover from that performance, as the Bucks boss saw Cieran Bridger, Frazer Clark and Jared Lewington score the goals to give the home side all three points.

The home side went ahead in the sixth minute when an error from Town’s keeper saw Bridger’s shot slip through and into the back of the empty net.

With the conditions playing their part for both sides, Buckland doubled the lead just after the half hour when Webber’s corner was not cleared and a Lewington shot was tapped home by Clark on the post.

After the break Buckland pushed for the third to kill off the game, and that goal came in the 56th minute thanks to Lewington, who ran through one on one with the keeper and the Bucks player finished coolly to ensure all 3 points went to the hosts.

The visitors managed to grab a late goal thanks to a header at the near post from Antony Herrin but Buckland where never in any real trouble as they maintained fifth place in the league and moved a little closer to the teams above them.

Next up for Hart’s team is a 1st round tie in the Les Phillips Cup against Mousehole AFC on Tuesday night, 7.45pm KO, before the big one in the FA Vase 4th round against Ascot United at Homers Heath, 3pm KO.
