Plymouth Argyle Women progressed into the quarter finals of the FA Women’s National League Cup with a 2-1 over Cardiff City at Home Park on Sunday afternoon.

 

Ryan Perks team played out their win in front of 1,518 supporters and the green army went home happy thanks to second half goals from Zoe Cunningham and Lily Greenslade.

 

Both sides had opportunities to take a first half lead at the break, however the large crowd had to wait until the 55th minute before the deadlock was broken when Rosie Train was fouled in the area and captain Cunningham step up and placed her spot kick into the corner.

 

The visitors where however level inside 5 minutes when Poole fired past Jasmine Read following a loose ball in the box.

 

Argyle’s winner came after good work on the wing by Charlotte Whitmore in the 67th minute, her cross found Greenslade, and the forward’s touch saw the ball end up in the back of the net and give Perks side a home tie against Portsmouth in the next round.

 

Exeter City’s Women ran out 5-2 winners in the FA National League Division One South West after victory against Moneyfields FC.

 

The visitors, who themselves had only lost one game so far this season and came into the game on a good run of form where two down at the break after a fast start by City thanks to goals from Jenna Marham (11) and Sarah Stacey (13).

 

The home side then extended their lead when Emily Toogood scored on the hour, however Moneyfield came back into the game with a goal of their on in the 70th minute. Ishbel Zuurmond then settled any nervous Exeter may have had coming off the bench and scoring in the 77th minute.

 

Toogood’s second and City’s fifth game in the 90th minute and ensured the home team moved into second place in the league, just 3 points off Cardiff City at the top of the table.

 

Torquay United Women comprehensively beat Ilminster Town women at Coach Road, with a 7-0 win. The result keeps United’s bid to gain promotion to the FA National League well on track.

 

The home side did however have to wait until the 35th minute before taking the lead thanks to Ellie Bishop before United doubled their lead before the break thanks to midfielder Becky McMullen.

 

Debutant Connie Pengelly then made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, before three minutes later Daisy Self made it 4-0.

 

Tracey Cross then got her head onto a Sasha Mole free kick in the 72nd minute. Mole herself then got in on the act to make it 6-0 with a 35-yard screamer of a free kick that went high into the roof of the net.

 

Pengelly then turned provider for Danni Wyatt to seal a fine team performance for the yellows, with a goal in stoppage time, lifting the ball over the keeper and making it seven.
