Teigns Edge South Devon Derby as Brixham Slip at Exeter Uni

Two goals made all the difference for the top two in the Peninsula Division One East with one enough to secure Teignmouth the points at home to Galmpton and another responsible for knocking Brixham AFC all the way down to fourth.

Galmpton United will feel unlucky to come away from Coombe Valley with nothing as they put on a battling performance against high-flying Teigns. Brixham AFC were even more unlucky at the University of Exeter as they tested the home goalkeeper throughout the game only to concede in the very last minute to one of the University’s only efforts on target, although it was a great strike from Charlie Knibb that settled the game.

Newton Abbot Spurs moved up to second with a 4-1 home win over Torridgeside. Liam Moseley opened the scoring after 20 minutes and scored again eight minutes later. Shaun Bowden’s strike, a minute from half-time put Spurs in a commanding position for the second half. Harry Stevens pulled one back for the North Devon visitors, in the 77th minute, but Bowden completed his brace, six minutes from time to wrap up the points.

Stoke Gabriel complete the South Devon top three after they also enjoyed a 4-1 home win, Alphington their opponents. A 3rd minute goal for Sean Finch separated the sides at the break, with Finch scoring his second three minutes into the second half to increase the margin. A 67th minute rocket from Josh Webber into the top corner sealed the three points before the irrepressible Finch completed consecutive hat-tricks with eight minutes remaining. The Alphas salvaged some pride with a goal before the end.

Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey went down 4-2 at home to Budleigh Salterton while, in a Friday night derby, Totnes and Dartington and Liverton United fought out a 1-1 draw.
