Melksham Break Home Jinx to Beat Bucks

Wiltshire side Melksham Town, Toolstation Western League winners two seasons ago, secured their first ever home win over Buckland Athletic as the Yellows slipped to consecutive away defeats.

It took just 12 minutes for the home side to get their noses in front, midfielder Dave Thompson’s long ball latched on to by striker Gary Higdon who lobbed the visiting goalkeeper Grant Fisher. That’s how the scores stayed until half-time but with Buckland defender Karl Green succumbing to an early injury, the misfortunes were beginning to pile up. Town doubled their advantage with 68 minutes on the clock, midfielder Mike Perrott with great work down the right before finding striker Luke Ballinger who drove the ball home. Midfielder Jake Hiscocks sealed the points with four minutes remaining, Ballinger providing the assist with a clever back heel.

Buckland now take a break from league action as they once again face 2014 FA Vase winners Sholing in the first round proper of this year’s tournament. Buckland beat the Boatmen in extra-time last season but this Saturday the match is being played away in Southampton. The Yellows’ next league game is at home to defending champions Odd Down on Saturday 29th October.
