Lewington Shines as Buckland Batter Willand

This season’s top scorer for Buckland Athletic, Jared Lewington dazzled a sizeable crowd at Homers Heath on Thursday evening, scoring all four of the Yellows’ goals in a convincing 4-0 win.

Over 200 people, the highest home attendance this season in the league, turned out swelled no doubt by the offer of a free ticket for early arrival. Lewington headed his first of the evening on 15 minutes and doubled up eight minutes later, leaving the Willand Rovers’ ‘keeper in no-man’s land as he clipped the ball over him from distance. Seven minutes later, the on-fire striker completed a first half hat-trick from the penalty spot, his confidently struck spot kick beating the goalkeeper on its way to the bottom left corner.

A fourth from Lewington in the second half increased Bucks’ lead to four before he got a well-deserved break, replaced by reserve team striker Jordan Ewing.

Bristol Manor Farm secured the title this afternoon with a 2-0 away victory over Hallen while away wins for Street and Melksham (against Bridport and Bradford Town respectively) keeps the pair in pole position for second and third. Should they slip up, Buckland have a chance for a top three finish. Buckland play their final home game of the season on Easter Monday, against Brislington before two tough trips to finish off – away at Bradford and Odd Down.
