Fisherman Extend Lead with St Martins Victory

Brixhan AFC extended their lead at the top of the South West Peninsula Division One East with three goals and a clean sheet at St Martins.

The Fisherman got off to a flyer when Kieran Parkin fired home after just two minute. That scoreline was maintained up until half-time and it wasn’t until the 55th minute that Brixham doubled their advantage, Graham Mercieca with the visitors’ second.  15 minutes later, Dan Keating all but secured the three points with a third goal. With Stoke Gabriel not in action, the win put Brixham five points clear at the top. Newton Abbot Spurs were also without again which meant that a point was all Teignmouth needed to move clear of Spurs and claim third spot for their own. They duly collected that point with a 1-1 home result against Appledore.

Buoyed by their derby win over Spurs, Bovey Tracey were looking to bag consecutive away victories at Budleigh Salterton. Surging into a three goal lead by half-time, the Moorlanders eventually ran out 5-1 winners with Joe Bushin notching a hat-trick and Callum Livingstone and George Buckmaster also contributing goals, the latter his first in men’s football!

Elsewhere, Liverton United were narrowly beaten 3-2 at the University of Exeter, Galmpton United were out to the sword at Sidmouth, the Vikings winning 5-1 and Totnes and Dartington also lost out with Axminster edging them 3-2 at the Foxhole Ground.
