Torbay Prepares for 66th Easter Hockey Festival

The 66th Torbay Easter Hockey Festival takes place this year from Friday 25th March to Monday 28th March.

Among the 12 participating teams this year will be The Buffaloes from Smethwick, celebrating their 50th Festival, as the annual hockey highlight continues to attract those clubs with an outstanding history at the event – a further eight have been coming down to the borough over the Easter period for over 50 years.

With the Headquarters again being the Redcliffe Hotel, Paignton, teams will play on two pitches – Clennon Valley Leisure Centre and Torquay Girls Grammar School .

Friday’s Opening Flag Raising Ceremony, by Festival President Ms. Nicole Amil, at Clennon Valley Leisure Centre, is at 9.30 am. This will be followed by the official bully off .

A Civic Reception for team captains and secretaries takes place on Saturday 26th and will also be attended by players who have been at the Festival for 25 years, accompanied by their partners.

2015 winners of the Bill Stickles Cup (for the highest scoring team) were All Saints with an impressive 47 goals, while the Redcliffe Fair Play Cup was won by the Esandars from Bristol (pictured).

The 300 or so players and supporters attending the Festival will be hoping that the famed Torbay weather once again makes its regular appearance.
