Buckland’s Last Trophy Hope Snatched Away in 85th Minute

Another cup quarter-final ended in disappointment for Buckland Athletic as Ellis Laight’s last hope for a trophy in his first season at the helm of the club was snatched away in the 85th minute of their Les Phillips Cup tie at Melksham Town.

The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw when substitute Joe Stradling whipped in a cross that Luke Ballinger swept into the bottom corner, sending the Oaklands contingent wild.

In the semi-finals, Darren Perrin’s side will be away at Gillingham Town who knocked out surprise quarter-finalists Roman Glass St George 3-1. Cribbs, who dispatched Shepton Mallet 3-1 away from home will host Willand Rovers who avenged last year’s 2-1 final defeat by winning 1-0 against holders Hengrove Athletic who play in the First Division.

Buckland return to league action on Tuesday night with a home game against Clevedon Town.
